I had heard the rumors a few months back that Rice Krispies were going to be gluten-free soon and even saw a picture of a box that said “Gluten-Free” on the front, yet Kellogg’s was remaining silent on the issue. Until now. Lookie here….

Doesn’t that just tickle your fancy?! I have been wanting to use that phrase for a while and am thrilled that I finally found a chance to do so. Now, back to my post.

Anyone else really stinkin’ excited?!? I don’t know if I am excited that I will have the Rice Krispies to eat again or if it is because another mainstream company that makes cereal is jumping on the gluten-free bandwagon. There are gluten-free versions of Rice Krispies, but they aren’t the same. In fact, I can’t wait to try them side by side to see how different (or maybe even the same) they are.
I love that the ingredient list is simple. No HFCS. Yes, there is sugar, but I would much rather there be real sugar than a chemically altered sugar added. Another bonus, the gluten-free version is made with brown rice, the original is not. The gluten-free also has 10 less calories & 1 more gram of protein. Little things make me happy.
Once the product is on the market, you can go here and see where you can find it close to you.
Now, I must go do my happy dance.

My son and me, November 2000. This is before we were gluten-free/diagnosed Celiac.

Let's hope they don't jack up the price of the gluten-free Rice Krispies like other manufacturers do with their gluten-free cereals!
Are you talking about the Chex? They seem to be in line with the other cereals in our stores – they are all kind of overpriced, but go on sale a lot. Hopefully they are the same cost as the reg. Rice Krispies.
More specifically talking about the Erewhon rice crispy cereal or Nature's Path corn flakes which seem to be double the price as Kellog's Corn Flakes. I only buy Chex on sale. I refuse to pay more than $4.00 a box of cereal.
I often find Chex on sale at Target for $3 per box, sometimes as low as $2, but never more than $4. I'd hope that Kelloggs is introducing gluten free Rice Krispies to compete with General Mills so will hopefully be price competitive.
WOW!! I hadn't heard this scoop. Great to know. Know we can make Rice Krispie treats.
Thanks, Kim.
I get chex on amazon for about $2 a box shipped. I did a survey a few months back for gluten free Rice crispies and did not believe they would call the product gluten free when it clearly still had gluten in it. Its nice to see they were really coming out with it. Now I'd like to see if its made in a manner safe from contamination.
@Erin- I am with you….$4 for a box of cereal is steep.
@Rick – I sure hope they will be price competitive.
@Julie – yay!
@Angela – It seems like they are taking this seriously.
YAY!!!! I'm so excited!! Bring on the rice krispie treats!!!
YAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!! Wonderful news!!!!!
Yeah!!! Great news!!
I had been eagerly anticipating this. The more mainstream companies that cater to a gluten-free diet, the better. Prices on everything will start to come down. More is more!
Warm regards,
Nicole
I am thrilled to hear this…but could they also eliminated BHT? Chex has is and I am trying to avoid preservatives with my kids!
I know, eliminating the BHT would have been nice. Perhaps in the future.
[...] Rice Krispies are going gluten free! Regular Rice Krispies have always had malt flavoring (from barley) like virtually every other mainstream commercial cereal — even the ones that didn’t otherwise contain wheat. The gluten free version will also be made from brown, rather than white rice, and doesn’t use HFCS. Of course, it’s not really “healthy” but it’s nice to have one other option on the regular cereal aisle. [...]

That is so exciting. I'll have to keep a lok out for them. Thanks for the info.
Are they manufactured in a gluten free environment and who certified them as being gluten free. So many companies state that their product is gluten free without ever getting them properly certified.
Since I recently heard that for some strange reason Kellogs doesn't think there are enough gluten free people in Canada to warrant putting them on our shelves. (by the way our statistics are the same as in the U.S.) I was wondering what grocery stores in the US carry them, since I will have to cross the border to get them.
Are they going to release them in the UK does anyone know?
