Three days. I am so excited for the start of the 2012 Olympics that I can’t even put it into words! I have always loved to watch gymnastics – Mary Lou Retton was my hero back in 1984 when I was 11 years old. I remember getting up each morning and being glued to the TV to find out when we could see gymnastics. Now that I am mostly grown up I find that I love watching most of the Olympic sports.
Having competed in numerous road races and trying to learn to swim efficiently for exercise has given me a whole new appreciation for these athletes. Keep in mind that I don’t run or swim anywhere near as fast as these athletes, even in my dreams, but watching some of these Olympians realize their life-long dreams sends chills right up my spine!
My favorite events to watch are:
- Gymnastics
- Diving
- Marathon – Go Kara!
- Other track races/jumps
- Swimming – Dana Vollmer just so happens to be a gluten-free athlete! Go Dana!!
- Volleyball
Which Olympic events are your favorites to watch? My DVR will be busy for the next couple of weeks and I will have plenty of content to watch while stretching and foam rolling.

My son and me, November 2000. This is before we were gluten-free/diagnosed Celiac.

I love gymnastics. I wish we had cable right now, but it's probably too much work to get it installed just to watch gymnastics and then promptly cancel it. For the record, I hope my daughter is never a gymnast. I love to watch the sport, but what they do to their bodies is a little scary.
Sarah – I am with you – it is scary!! Hannah did it for a short period of time, along with ice skating and ballet. Hip Hop dance is her new thing. Lord help me!

I love watching swimming and gymnastics. I can't wait to see Missy Franklin in the pool. She is such a nice girl and a fierce swimmer! I'm exicted to see the opening ceremonies and well…everything else!!! I'm sure I'll be glued to the tv.
I love the opening ceremonies, too!!
I enjoy the opening ceramonies too! But I like to watch gymnastics, swimming and basket ball. This is a great time of the year!
Enjoy!!
Thanks for sharing that video of Mary Lou. I got goosebumps all over again!
I showed it to Hannah and she thought it was really cool!! She did ask about the quality of the video. Asked if it was almost like black & white. :/
