The Summer Olympics shed a new light on gluten-free athletes. Over the past year or two there have been several athletes in the news touting the gluten-free lifestyle, though not always due to Celiac Disease. I love to hear about these athletes, not only because I am a runner, but because it always fascinates me to hear about the effects of removing gluten from an individual’s diet. Of course I always recommend seeing a doctor before starting the gluten-free diet, as testing for Celiac Disease must be completed before removing gluten from the diet in order for the results to be accurate.
“The Gluten-Free Edge” is the newest book from Peter Bronski, Coauthor of Artisanal Gluten-Free Cooking, and Melissa McLean Jory, MNT. This book is a wealth of information about gluten, why it makes people sick, “The Gluten Intolerance Spectrum” – from Celiac Disease to Wheat Allergy to Gluten Sensitivity to Everybody Else. The book goes on to share why athletes should care about gluten, even if they are otherwise relatively healthy individuals. There are stories from many athletes, including one from yours truly:
I was so flattered to be asked to share my story for this book! I am having a blast reading about these fantastic athletes and their stories. I have to admit that it is kind of cool to open up a book that one can find on the shelves of Barnes & Noble or Amazon.com and see your very own picture staring back at you! The end of the book has numerous recipes, including my current favorite: Apple-Pecan Crumble – it just screams fall!
I am going to give one lucky reader a free copy of this book courtesy of little old me! I appreciate each and every one of you more than you could ever know! Without readers, my blog wouldn’t be a blog – it would be a diary. To enter to win, please follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter box below.

My son and me, November 2000. This is before we were gluten-free/diagnosed Celiac.

Everyone can benefit from going gluten free. I can't wait to read this book!!
I am a runner who's been gluten free for a couple of years now due to gluten intolerance. (or maybe 3?) I have other stomach/digestive issues and constraints which further restrict my diet. I'm doing harder training, and I can tell I'm not quite where I need to be nutrition-wise, so I can use all the help I can get to support my needs & running goals. Thanks Kim!
There is a history of wheat allergies and gluten sensitivity in my family – this is something I really need to explore.
I want to win because I'm curious more about the gluten "spectrum". I have Celiac, but due to the genetically modified grains in the US, I think a lot of people can benefit from going g-free!
wow this is right up my alley. I am a distance runner and diagnosed with celiac, I would love to read this.
i think i'm gluten intolerant
I had heard about the book, it sounds great–so many of the food guides for athletes focus on whole wheat and other gluten-filled carbs.
I am new to the gluten free lifestyle after years of struggling with medical issues. I am also trying to lose weight and treat my body well. This book would be wonderful have! It addresses to major life changes I am going through with food, exercise, and whole living.
I'm so proud of you Kim! I'm definitely going to read this book, and I told my trainer about it too !
Hi Kim,
How very exciting! I still haven't read it yet and it's sweet of you to do giveaway.
Kim,
Thank you so much for hosting this giveaway of our book. Pete and I are grateful to you and all the other wonderful athletes who grace the pages. Thank you for being part of this project and good luck to your readers! =)

Congratulations on being in the book!
Thank you, Cindy!
I am a runner, and I have been trying to up my performance lately. I have been fatigued easily and deal with digestive issues to certain types of foods. I recently went wheat-free because a cardiologist suggested it, and it has changed my life in a matter of a week!! I would like to get faster and gain more endurance, and I think this book will really help me, and I'm so excited to read it!!!
You in a book! I would really, really love to win a copy! I am starting to try the GF lifestyle. So many of my mysterious symptoms and ailments seem to be explained by possibly not being able to tolerate gluten. (I used to think maybe I was not able to tolerate certain carbs. Maybe that was a little bit true after all?)
