{"id":1767,"date":"2009-10-05T21:03:25","date_gmt":"2009-10-06T01:03:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/glutenfreeislife.wordpress.com\/2009\/10\/05\/baked-ziti-gluten-free\/"},"modified":"2009-10-05T21:03:25","modified_gmt":"2009-10-06T01:03:25","slug":"baked-ziti-gluten-free","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/?p=1767","title":{"rendered":"Baked Ziti &#8211; Gluten-free"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My family loves Italian food, so what better dish than Baked Ziti for a great fall meal?&nbsp; This recipe is so simple and the results are so flavorful.&nbsp; It is also a great meal to make and then freeze half of for a later date when you are in a hurry.&nbsp; I found the base recipe on <a href=\"http:\/\/allrecipes.com\/Recipe\/Baked-Ziti-II\/Detail.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Allrecipes.com<\/a> and modified it to be gluten-free.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/ziti.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-bottom:0;border-left:0;border-top:0;border-right:0;\" border=\"0\" alt=\"ziti\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/ziti_thumb.jpg\" width=\"454\" height=\"309\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<li>1 (16 ounce) package ziti pasta (I used Trader Joe&#8217;s Brown Rice Penne Pasta)\n<li>15 ounces ricotta cheese (part skim)\n<li>1 pound shredded mozzarella cheese (I used a little less than a pound -that was all I had left)\n<li>1 egg, beaten\n<li>1 (32 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce (I used Prego Three Cheese &#8211; verified gluten-free)\n<li>1\/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese<\/li>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add ziti and cook for 7-8 minutes (you want it to be a little undercooked so it doesn&#8217;t get mushy in the baking process; drain and rinse.\n<li>In a medium bowl, mix ziti, ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, egg and 1 1\/2 cups spaghetti sauce.\n<li>Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).\n<li>Lightly grease a 9&#215;13 inch baking dish and spoon in ziti mixture. Top with remaining spaghetti sauce, followed by Parmesan cheese.\n<li>Bake covered in preheated oven for 30 -40 minutes; broil uncovered for 5 or so minutes; let stand for 15 minutes before serving.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/ziti1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-bottom:0;border-left:0;border-top:0;border-right:0;\" border=\"0\" alt=\"ziti1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/ziti1_thumb.jpg\" width=\"454\" height=\"309\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/ziti2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-bottom:0;border-left:0;border-top:0;border-right:0;\" border=\"0\" alt=\"ziti2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/ziti2_thumb.jpg\" width=\"454\" height=\"309\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Jon said that he liked this better than lasagna!!!&nbsp; That is quite the compliment, as he is always asking for lasagna.&nbsp; Don&#8217;t tell him, but this dish is much simpler to put together.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>I think it would be great to toss some roasted veggies in with this&#8230;.mushrooms, zucchini, squash and tomatoes.&nbsp; My family would refuse to eat it, but I would love it!
