Say \u201cGood-bye\u201d to the old pyramid.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.myfit.ca\/printablenewfoodpyramid.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"372\" height=\"203\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Say \u201cHello\u201d to the new version and recommendations:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.choosemyplate.gov\/images\/MyPlateImages\/MyPlate-green300x273.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.choosemyplate.gov\/\">source<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>The new recommendations place a larger emphasis on fresh fruits &amp; vegetables and less on grains, protein &amp; dairy.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There is more specific information on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.choosemyplate.gov\/tipsresources\/tentips.html\">tips here<\/a> and food groups <a href=\"http:\/\/www.choosemyplate.gov\/foodgroups\/index.html\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 More recommendations that are listed on the site:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong><br \/>\nBalancing Calories<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u25cf<br \/>\nEnjoy your food, but eat less.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf<br \/>\nAvoid oversized portions.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Foods to Increase<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u25cf<br \/>\nMake half your plate fruits and vegetables.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf<br \/>\nMake at least half your grains whole grains.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf<br \/>\nSwitch to fat-free or low-fat (1%) milk.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Foods to Reduce<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u25cf<br \/>\nCompare sodium in foods like soup, bread, and frozen meals \u2015 and choose the foods with lower numbers.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf<br \/>\nDrink water instead of sugary drinks.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What does this mean for those of us that are gluten-free?\u00a0 Nothing really.\u00a0 My plate is typically made up of the following:<\/p>\n<p>3-4 oz protein (lean meats, beans or Sunshine burger)<\/p>\n<p>Large salad \u2013 3-4 cups worth<\/p>\n<p>1 cup of veggies, either roasted or steamed<\/p>\n<p>Small potato (baked or sweet); quinoa, brown rice, etc<\/p>\n<p>I usually eat my fruit for breakfast, snacks or dessert.\u00a0 I do add fruit to my salad \u2013 either dried or cut up pears or berries.\u00a0 I also add avocado and a nut\/seed of sorts.<\/p>\n<p>The new recommendations won\u2019t change the way I eat.\u00a0 I consider myself a pretty healthy eater.\u00a0 Sure, I like my treats, but I eat way above my quota of veggies\/fruits, get plenty of protein and eat a sufficient amount of grains.\u00a0 I don\u2019t eat a lot of dairy, but that has more to do with the fact that I am lactose intolerant and can\u2019t tolerate large amounts.\u00a0 So, the changes that have been made by the USDA won\u2019t change what I do here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Have you paid much attention in the past to the Food Pyramid?\u00a0 Will this new design make any impact on the way you eat?\u00a0 If so, how will it change the way you eat?<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"linkwithin_hook\" id=\"https:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/?p=3302\"><\/div>\n<script><!-- \/\/LinkWithinCodeStart\nvar linkwithin_div_class=\"linkwithin_hook\";\nvar linkwithin_site_id = 135270;\n\/\/LinkWithinCodeEnd -->\n<\/script>\n<script src=\"http:\/\/www.linkwithin.com\/widget.js\"><\/script>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkwithin.com\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.linkwithin.com\/pixel.png\" alt=\"Related Posts with Thumbnails\" style=\"border: 0\" \/><\/a>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Have you heard the news about the Food Pyramid?
