{"id":3638,"date":"2011-08-25T22:04:05","date_gmt":"2011-08-26T02:04:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/?p=3638"},"modified":"2011-08-25T22:04:09","modified_gmt":"2011-08-26T02:04:09","slug":"california-pizza-kitchen-continued","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/?p=3638","title":{"rendered":"California Pizza Kitchen Continued"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wlWriterHeaderFooter\" style=\"float:none; margin:0px; padding:4px 0px 4px 0px;\"><iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/widgets\/like.php?href=http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/?p=3638\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none; width:450px; height:80px\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Earlier this summer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/gluten-free-food-in-columbus\/review-california-pizza-kitchen-s-gluten-free-pizza\">California Pizza Kitchen<\/a> debuted gluten-free pizza on their menu.&#160; I was giddy.&#160; I loved CPK pre-gluten-free and couldn\u2019t wait to go back and try their new pizza.&#160; Well, we did, and it was great, but our spirits were quickly dampened by the news that there could be major cross contamination issues going on in the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>I decided to <a href=\"http:\/\/celiac-disease.com\/california-pizza-kitchen-concerns\/\" target=\"_blank\">go back and investigate<\/a> to see what was going on and whether what I had heard about their procedures was indeed true.&#160; I was saddened by what I found out.&#160; While it had appeared that CPK went to great lengths to add the gluten-free pizza to their menu, they didn\u2019t consider some of the most important issues.&#160; Cross contamination is real and can be very serious.&#160; Sure, some of those with Celiac Disease don\u2019t react right away (or even at all), but some do and it isn\u2019t pretty.&#160; This doesn\u2019t even take into consideration those that have a true allergy (to wheat or gluten) that results in anaphylactic shock.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>Emails and tweets were sent to CPK to try to get them to understand the seriousness of this situation.&#160; If gluten-free pizza is going to be on the menu and more importantly, marketed to those on the gluten-free diet, the procedures needed to be changed or the pizza needed to be removed from the menu.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>Shortly after I tweeted CPK, I received this response:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/CPKtweet.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"CPKtweet\" border=\"0\" alt=\"CPKtweet\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/CPKtweet_thumb.jpg\" width=\"415\" height=\"346\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While I haven\u2019t heard anything from CPK since this tweet, despite my having tweeted them twice in the past week, I did hear some news today.&#160; Gluten Free Philly reported on Facebook the following news:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreephilly.com\/\">Gluten Free Philly<\/a><\/p>\n<p>California Pizza Kitchen has pulled the gluten-free crust option from its menu at all locations.
