{"id":4190,"date":"2011-12-31T19:15:08","date_gmt":"2012-01-01T00:15:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/?p=4190"},"modified":"2011-12-31T19:15:12","modified_gmt":"2012-01-01T00:15:12","slug":"the-year-in-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/?p=4190","title":{"rendered":"The Year in Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wlWriterHeaderFooter\" style=\"float:none; margin:0px; padding:4px 0px 4px 0px;\"><iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/widgets\/like.php?href=http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/?p=4190\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none; width:450px; height:80px\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>This year seemed to just fly by.&#160; I feel like I was just complaining about the cold &amp; snow that we had last winter and here we are facing another winter (although this one seems to be much milder at this point).&#160; We usually don\u2019t do much on New Year\u2019s Eve and this year isn\u2019t any different.&#160; Hannah is still recovering from a nasty stomach virus and Aaron may have had a touch of it as well.&#160; We are laying low, dining on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peiwei.com\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Pei Wei<\/a> and hoping to make it to midnight to see the ball drop.&#160; In the meantime, I am going to recap our year below.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/016-640x427.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"016 (640x427)\" border=\"0\" alt=\"016 (640x427)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/016-640x427_thumb.jpg\" width=\"397\" height=\"274\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last winter\/spring I joined <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trainwithmit.com\/\">MIT<\/a> for the first time.&#160; At the time I didn\u2019t realize the impact this would have on my life.&#160; While training for The Flying Pig Marathon, I made some amazing friends.&#160; These are the people that I ran with each Saturday for hours on end.&#160; We ran through the snow and ice. And if that wasn\u2019t bad enough, then came the rain.&#160; I used to hate to run in the rain, even a mist.&#160; After spending hours running 14 miles in the pouring down rain, through flooded bike paths, a short run through the rain seems like a walk in the park.&#160; Funny how things change.&#160; I will never forget those difficult runs, as they have made me a stronger person mentally.&#160; Even though I <a href=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/?p=3165\" target=\"_blank\">didn\u2019t run my goal race due to injury<\/a>, I still managed to complete 3 half marathons last year and PR the one I ran in October, finally coming in under 2 hours.&#160; I\u2019ll take that.&#160; During training for those races &amp; continuing to run after, I have run 1,077 miles this year!&#160; That is like running from here (Columbus, Ohio) to Waco, Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Jon\u2019s JV hockey team had an amazing first season, beating one of the top teams for the championship!&#160; Congrats, guys!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/183807_1862931375149_1296915378_2192747_6036586_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"183807_1862931375149_1296915378_2192747_6036586_n\" border=\"0\" alt=\"183807_1862931375149_1296915378_2192747_6036586_n\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/183807_1862931375149_1296915378_2192747_6036586_n_thumb.jpg\" width=\"319\" height=\"372\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/032_thumb5_thumb.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Summer started out with a bang with our annual trip to the beach.&#160; We had an amazing time and returned to settle into our routine for the summer.&#160; Jon, Hannah and I headed out to have dinner at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/gluten-free-food-in-columbus\/marcella-s-does-gluten-free-pizza-justice-review\" target=\"_blank\">Marcella\u2019s<\/a> on a hot summer night.&#160; We had gluten-free pizza and stopped at a neighbor\u2019s house on the way home to drop off a gift for housesitting while we were gone.&#160; Hannah fell while playing with the neighbor kids and broke her arm.&#160; She ended up having surgery &amp; 3 pins placed in her arm.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/IMAG0842_thumb.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Just as things were getting back to normal, the cast came off and pins came out, Hannah had another stroke of bad luck \u2013 appendicitis.&#160; <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/hannahhos.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"hannahhos\" border=\"0\" alt=\"hannahhos\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/hannahhos_thumb.jpg\" width=\"244\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I am fairly certain the look on her face says <strong>\u201care you freakin\u2019 kidding me?\u201d.<\/strong>&#160; The girl is a trooper and is much stronger than I was a 9 years old.&#160; Don\u2019t get in her way!&#160; <\/p>\n<p>Aaron and I celebrated our <strong>11th anniversary together!<\/strong>&#160; I wish for many more years with the man that I love!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net\/hphotos-ak-ash4\/389744_134955383277838_100002901319771_144528_227676203_n.jpg\" width=\"262\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I shared my list of <a href=\"http:\/\/celiac-disease.com\/2011-favorites\/\" target=\"_blank\">gluten-free favorites from 2011 on Celiac-Disease.com<\/a>, so make sure to swing by to take a look.&#160; This was a big year for gluten-free.&#160; May 2011 brought the gluten-free food labeling summit with the world\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/1in133.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">largest gluten-free cake organized by 1in133.<\/a>&#160; It is a wonderful time to be gluten-free!&#160; <\/p>\n<p>For the coming year, I wish for peace.&#160; Peace in the world, peace in my house, peace within myself.&#160; Raising a teen is stressful.&#160; Raising a tween is stressful.&#160; Stress is why I began to practice yoga last July.&#160; Now I feel lost when I miss a class or it is cancelled.&#160; Not only does it help me to unwind, but it has done wonders for my tight hamstrings.&#160; My short list of goals:<\/p>\n<p>1.&#160; Be more patient.&#160; Slow down.&#160; Smell the roses.<\/p>\n<p>2.&#160; Spend more quality time with family.<\/p>\n<p>3.&#160; Continue my yoga practice.<\/p>\n<p>4.&#160;
