I drink wine because I love the taste &amp; the experience the flavor lends to a good meal.\u00a0 When I first started the gluten-free diet over six years ago, I mourned the passing of my beloved Amstel Light, but was somewhat comforted with the fact that wine was gluten-free, or so I had been told.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/IMG_0359.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"IMG_0359\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeislife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/IMG_0359_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0359\" width=\"267\" height=\"353\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fast forward a few years and I began to hear rumors on the internet of some wine potentially containing gluten!\u00a0 NO!\u00a0 The rumor was that some winemakers coated the insides of barrels with wheat-based paste or material.\u00a0 I could never find any concrete information to back this up, and I wasn\u2019t getting sick when I drank wine, so I left it be.<\/p>\n<p>As I was catching up on <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter<\/a> the other day, I ran across a discussion on the <a href=\"http:\/\/udisglutenfree.com\/community#\/1506175\/forum\/147302\/gluten-in-wine.html\" target=\"_blank\">Udi\u2019s community page<\/a> about this very topic.\u00a0 Alta, of <a href=\"http:\/\/tastyeatsathome.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tasty Eats at Home<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemakermag.com\/stories\/techniques\/article\/indices\/30-pressing\/906-pressing-seeds-gluten-in-wine-wine-wizard\" target=\"_blank\">mentions an article<\/a> where this is discussed further, which I found helpful.\u00a0 It seems the general consensus is that gluten is not used in winemaking and the barrel-coating process is \u201cold school\u201d, therefore making wine safe for those following the gluten-free diet.\u00a0 Of course if there is any concern, a call can be placed to the manufacturer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What has been your experience?\u00a0 Do you drink wine?\u00a0 Have you had any gluten-like reaction from drinking wine?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>****Update: \u00a0An <a href=\"http:\/\/noglutennoproblem.blogspot.com\/2010\/11\/wine-lose-or-draw.html\">excellent article written<\/a> by Peter Bronski on this topic. \u00a0Make sure to check it out!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>**Don&#8217;t forget to head over to enter the Rudi&#8217;s giveaway &#8211;
