I haven&#8217;t had this in years, so I decided that it was high time to make it gluten-free.  I took a recipe from allrecipes.com and converted it to be gluten-free.  It was a fairly simple recipe and not very time consuming at all.  Not only did I sub GF flour, but I cut the butter in half and added in 1\/4 cup applesauce, I also doubled the spices.  I am only typing out the recipe as I made the cake below.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3100\/3135894015_14b51dc845.jpg?v=0\"><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nGingerbread<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1\/2 cup sugar<br \/>\n1\/4 cup butter<br \/>\n1\/4 cup applesauce<br \/>\n1 egg<br \/>\n1 cup molasses<br \/>\n2 1\/2 cups all purpose flour (I used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreemall.com\/catalog\/authentic-foods-bette-hagmans-flour-blend-glutenfree-flour-p-17.html?manufacturers_id=10&amp;osCsid=rocvpn3s637i4jlrbfoehgs892\">Bette&#8217;s 4 Flour Blend by Authentic Foods<\/a>)<br \/>\n1 1\/4 tsp Xanthan Gum<br \/>\n1 1\/2 tsp baking soda<br \/>\n2 tsp cinnamon<br \/>\n2 tsp ginger<br \/>\n1\/2 tsp cloves<br \/>\n1\/2 tsp salt<br \/>\n1 cup hot water<\/p>\n<p>1.  Preheat oven to 350.  Pam or grease &amp; flour a 9-inch square pan.<br \/>\n2.  In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter.  Add in the applesauce.  Beat in the egg and mix in the molasses.<br \/>\n3.  In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, spices, xanthan gum.  Blend into the creamed mixture.  Stir in the hot water.  Pour into the prepared pan.<br \/>\n4.  Bake 1 hour in the preheated oven.  Check after 45 minutes or so, as I didn&#8217;t have to cook mine longer than 50 minutes.  Allow to cool in pan before serving.<\/p>\n<p>I flipped my cake onto a plate after it cooled and topped with powdered sugar.
